NASA Accelerating Informatics for Earth Science | 13th June 2024

Dear Colleagues,

We’re looking forward to your joining the NASA Informatics meeting in Arlington on the 13th of June. We wanted to take a moment to thank you in advance for the effort and thought to make contributions to help inform this important discussion and of course taking the time out of your schedules.

Remote sensing technologies paired with AI are emerging as crucial tools in powering data informed decisions about our shared future and we’re excited to be able to host leaders in data provision, data science and downstream applications from both government, commercial and academia.

On sign up, we asked contributors to provide insights to your interests and open questions. We have aggregated these inputs into broad themes listed below:

Acceleration themes:

1. Informatics for Earth Science

2. In-Space Technology (including real-time data analysis)

3. Data Access and Infrastructure

4. Trusted Decision Making (for Disasters and others)

Making it happen:

5. How to do business with NASA

6. NASA data products

7. NASA commercial data buys

The intention of the meeting is to shine a light on all of these topics collectively and we invite you to reflect in advance about which you would like to focus on. During the meeting we will be encouraging working groups to explore these subjects in more detail, surfacing strategies on how we might accelerate informatics for the benefit of all.

Finally, even though our domain discussion is Earth and Climate, the broader picture includes “how can AI and science collaboratively advance together” - a critical debate as AI emerges as a foundational technology. We are very much looking forward to better understanding this as well.

We are immensely grateful for your participation and are looking forward to connecting in person on the 13th. With appreciation, the NASA Accelerating Informatics Steering team
