Dr. Mark L. Carroll graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park with a Bachelor of Science in Natural Resources Management, a Master of Professional Studies in Geographic Information Systems and a PhD from the Department of Geographical Sciences. 


Mark has been a research scientist for over 20 years at the University of Maryland and NASA where the focus of that research has used Machine Learning and Big Data analytics to interrogate global scale satellite remote sensing datasets. Currently, he is the Data Science Group Lead in the Computational and Information Science and Technology Office (CISTO) at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. His responsibilities include interacting with research scientists to facilitate and accelerate their workflows in the High End Computing environment using methods including AI and Machine Learning. 


He leads a multi-disciplinary team of developers exploring new techniques on the compute resources of CISTO.
